9, 2008) -- With track temperatures hovering around the 140 degree mark, an
exciting field of Super Pro racers contested for over 20 thousand dollars in
winner’s dollars in two days of tough racing at the Montgomery Motorsports
Park Mullis Super 7 Series event June 6-8.
Sunday was actually Heathday at
MMP as Cullman, AL star Heath Davis took both the winner and runner-up
position in the Sunday race. Melvin Wilson was the lone semi-finalist.
On
Saturday, Super Pro racers got three shots at Jim Howard Racing loot. In the
day’s main event, Brandon Taylor of Roanoke, Al took the Super Pro crown
over Dennis Coover of Cartersville, GA. Taylor had an .025 light and ran a
5.281 on his 5.28 dial at 131.15 mph. Coover had the better bulb with an
.007 but ran a 4.92 on his 4.90 dial at 131.37mph. Tut Turrentine was the
semi-finalist. In a “high roller” 16 car shootout, Roanoke godfather Mike
Smith and his son Timmy faced off in the final with Timmy beating his dad
for a $5,000 payday. In a third Saturday event, Ty Ty, Georgia racer Bobby
Mouat defeated A.J. Ashe in the finals for a $2,500 victory.
In
the Jr. Dragster wars, Brandon Thompson of Douglasville, GA staged a
two-peat, defeating Taylor Ramsey of Commerce, GA on Saturday. Brandon
dialed 7.95 and sped to a 7.935 at 80.00 mph. Taylor dialed her junior at
7.85 but slowed to a 7.911 at 82.97 mph. Elaina Thompson of Bowden, GA was
the semi-finalist. On Sunday, Brandon lined up against 18 year old Morgan
Mouat of Ty Ta, GA. He dialed a 7.91 and ran a 8.004 at 80.88 mph. Taylor
Ramsey was the lone semi-finalist.
MMP Promoter Jim Howard thanked the racers for their support and reminded
them about the next Mullis Super 7 event July 5-6.
Coming events at MMP include:
- The Southern Outlaws and ORSCA are together at MMP June 20-22. That means two
classes of Pro Mod plus the legendary ORSCA competition in Outlaw 10.5, Limited
Street, EZ Street, Modified Street, as well as 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 index classes.
Gates will open at 10am Friday with a special Test and Tune beginning at 5pm.
Saturday, gates open at 8am with three qualifying rounds beginning at 11am.
- MMP will host its usual Test and Tune on Friday, June 13.
- On Saturday (6/14) , MMP hosts the 10th birthday of the No Limit
Racing Club. Gates open at 12 noon.
