(April
11, 2008) -- It rained at Montgomery Motorsports Park solidly from Thursday
to Saturday evening, but the racers in the Mullis Super 7 Series hung in
there and experienced running two complete races on Sunday (4/6).
Footbrake racing hitter Nick Kay of Ragland, AL brought home a pair of
runner-up finishes in the pair of races. First, he battled "Stone Cold"
Steve Sties. Stites, who had to run himself in the semi-finals, took
his 10-second Cavalier to a a leisurely 10.55 while Nick lit the reds. In
the second race, Kay faced Coalburg Racing Mac Daddy Jared Pennington, who
took a starting line advantage and never looked back for the win.Jr.
Dragster ace Chris Hill of Adger, Alabama took both races.
In Pro, Tennessee racer Ron Lane waded through a tough field to meet Marty
Wiles in the finals of the first race. Wiles cut a stellar .001 light but
his car broke something important and he couldn't run his number. South
Alabama's Glenn Webb was the semi-finalist.The day's second race featured
Jeremy Hancock of Commerce, Georgia tangling with Bryant Walding of Dothan.
Hancock's perfect reaction time gave him enough cushion to hold off Walding,
who ran dead-on but lost a heartbreaker. Stephen McCrory, Jr. and Jeff Rucks
were the semi-finalists. Rucks had a good weekend as he also notched the
first perfect run in Super 7 Series History.
When the dust had cleared, Ron Lane held a narrow Pro points lead over Jimbo
Smith. In footbrake, Steve Stites and Jared Pennington are on top, but not
by much. With his two wins, Chris Hill jumps on top of the Jr. Dragster
points, but Jarret Kay is breathing down his neck. The next Mullis Super 7
Series event will be May 3-4 at Montgomery Motorsports Park.
