 Super Chevy Show Wows MMP(May
19, 2008) -- The O'Reilly Super Chevy Show had its run at Montgomery
Motorsports Park with beautiful weather, large crowds and great racing.
Ken "The Kid" Walsh from Purcellville, VA won the Aeromotive Nitro Coupe
Challenge in a close final over 2007 champ Jerry Rhodes of Southside,
Alabama.
 Rhodes
had qualified ahead of Walsh, but Ken found a problem in his supercharged
beast of a power plant which had limited his power. He came out on race
Sunday with what amounted to a new Nitro Coupe and a good attitude. He
marched through the field until he met Rhodes in the fianl. Walsh had an
.062 light and roared to a 4.082 at 179.3 mph. Rhodes could only manage a
4.811 as he had traction issues and shut his '64 Vette Aeromotive Nitro
Coupe off early. |

 Timmy
Smith of Roanoke, AL rose to the top of the heap in a tough ProCharger
Bracket 1 (electronics) class. Smith met fellow young gun Cole Cousins of
Wetumpka, AL in the finals and came away with the win. Smith's dragster went
4.958 on a 4.97 dial at 139.06 mph in the final. Cousins ended things on the
starting line with a -.004 red light and then ran a 6.563 at 103.85 on his
6.57 dial. Rodney Byrd was the only semi-finalist.
 "Bad"
Brad Ford of Gardendale, AL took the Jeg's Bracket Two (non-electonics)
battle, defeating Rick Justice of Wetumpka in the finals. Ford took his 1972
Nova to a 6.461 run on his 6.40 dial at 104.15 mph. His .049 light gave him
a big starting line advantage over Justice, who ran 5.663 on his 5.66 dial
at 120.72 in his 1937 Chevy roadster.
Fort Walton Beach, FL racer Brian Bogen took the NitroPlate DOT class win
over Kevin Tolliver of Wetumpka, who ended the contest on the starting line
with a red light,. Bogten took his '06 Pontiac GTO to a 13.142 dial on a
13.17 dial (1/4 mile) at 109.82 mph. Tolliver ran a 10.486 at 128.44 miles
per hour.
The Aeromotive Jr. Dragster final was a sister act, with Kayla McClain of
Andalusia, AL facing off against little sister Mary Ella McClain. Kayla
scored an .079 light and a 8.311 on her 7.95 dial at 81.66 mph. Mary Ella
turned on the reds to end the contest but ran a 8.985 on her 8.91 dial at
74.60 mph.
Big Bucks racing returns to MMP on June 6-8 when the Mullis Super 7
