Mullis Race Cars Super Seven Series Debut Lives up to its name

(March 4, 2008) -- A field of over 220 cars crowded into Montgomery Motorsports Park February 29 / March 2 for the premiere of the Mullis Race Cars Super 7 Series.

So many cars crowded into the park Friday night (2/29) that two Pro shootouts were held. Troy Williams, Jr. took his Mullis dragster to a win in one, while hometown hero Jarred Mackey of Opelika took the other in his family's Ford Falcon wagon. Adam Davis of Cullman snagged the win in the Friday Footbrake Shootouts. These Friday night shootouts will be a regular of each Super 7 series event.

Saturday Pro Winner Kevin RoddenOn Saturday, Kevin Rodden (K & R Performance Engineering) waded through a field of over 150 cars to reach the finals against Troy Williams, Jr. Rodden took the win with a .028 light and a 4.717 pass off a 4.69 dial at 139.23 miles per hour. Troy Williams ended the race on the starting line with an -.004 red light.

Saturday Jr Dragster and Footbrake winners Jarret and Doyle KayTwo well-known Footbrake Racers tangled in the Saturday finals. When the dust had cleared, Doyle Kay edged "Cool Hand" Luke Bogacki for the win. Kay had a .024 light, a 6.43 dial-in with a 6.435 at 103.16 mph run. Luke also had an .024 light but ran a 6.107 breakout on his 6.11 dial.

Doyle Kay had another reason to smile Saturday as Jarret Kay of Ashville took the Saturday Jr. Dragster title with a win over Bobby Mouat of Ty Ty, Georgia. Jarret had a stunning .003 reaction time and got away with an 8.019 breakout on his 8.02 dial-in when Bobby had a -.001 red light.

Brett Murphree came out top of a record field of 66 entries Saturday night in the "legendary" MMP Scooter nationals which featured a wide variety of pit vehicles in head-to-head bracket competition.

Super 7 Jegs Top DragsterOne special treat was the appearance of a huge Jeg's trailer loaded with the Jeg's Mail Order Top Dragster.

The dragster should have been named "rocket ship" as it roared to a 6.95 quarter mile at almost 200 miles per hour piloted by Todd "Bones" Ewing. Bones and the Jeg's crew tried a variety of parts and set -up combinations during the weekend.

Sunday Pro Winner Bruce MouatOn Sunday, another field of over 150 pros tangled with Ty Ty, Georgia racer Bruce Mouat and Randy Anderson of Saluda, SC meeting in the finals. Mouat aced the tree with an .003 and then ran a 4.687 on his 4.68 dial at 147.17 mph for the win as Randy tripped the beams with a -.002 red light but ran it out for a 6.296 on his 6.29 dial at 107.51.

Sunday Footbrake Winner Luke BogackiLuke Bogacki improved on his Saturday runner-up finish by winning the Sunday Footbrake race over Jason McClure. Bogacki had a stellar .004 light and ran a 6.149 on his 6.12 dial at 103.14 mph. McClure had an .044 light and a 6.551 breakout on his 6.57 dial at 100.43.

Sunday Jr Dragster WinnerThe Sunday Junior Dragster wars ended with Boudon, Georgia's Matt Wright beating Chris Hill of Adger, GA. Matt had a .012 light and a 7.982 on his 7.85 dial at 77.15 mph. Chris lost a ton on the tree and then ran an 8.188 on a 8.10 dial at 79.10 mph.

The star-studded field in Pro, Footbrake and Junior Dragster came close, but no one turned in the perfect run necessary to claim a complete Speedtech Nitrous system worth over $1,000. The good news is that Speedtech will make the same offer at each of the MMP/Mullis Race Cars Super 7 Series events this year.

The next Super 7 event will be April 4-6 at Montgomery Motorsports Park. For a flyer or more information, go to Flyer or call Jim Howard at 334.260.9660.
